Programme Note
Pianist Dejan Lazic has been described by The Guardian as 'a powerhouse performer whose playing combines strength with beauty'.
The young Croatian pianist, a composer himself, is noted for his wide repertoire and insightful interpretations. He was the winner of an ECHO Klassik Award in 2009 for his Rachmaninov recording with the London Philharmonic Orchestra.
Tonight he performs a typically adventurous programme which reveals links between seemingly disparate composers. The evocative musical pictures of Benjamin Britten's Holiday Diary Op.5 feature alongside music by CPE Bach, JS Bach's most-gifted son, whose 300th birthday anniversary is celebrated in 2014. CPE's groundbreaking fantasias and sonatas are highly emotional and full of imagination.
The second half explores the glittering Spanish rhythms of Scarlatti's sonatas and the intense Hungarian soundworld of Bartók.
