Programme Note

Colin Currie joins Aurora Orchestra under Nicholas Collon for a concert dedicated to the memory of composer Steve Martland.

Martland was described in a Guardian obituary last year as 'one of the most vibrant, unconventional and dynamic forces in British music'.

Drawing on a kaleidoscope of musical influences that ranged from Henry Purcell to Steve Reich via jazz and rock, Martland's was a compelling, unique and often iconoclastic musical voice.

This concert reflects the rich spectrum of his interests and collaborations, with guest appearances by members of the original Steve Martland Band, two of Martland's own most striking works, and Dave Maric's Trilogy for solo live and sampled percussion.

A dazzling programme is completed by one of the great works of the late 20th century - John Adams' virtuosic Chamber Symphony for 15 instruments.
