Programme Note
Following the release of his Die schöne Mullerin album with Barokksolistene, come and hear baritone Thomas Guthrie’s acclaimed arrangement of Schubert’s songs live in London. It will be brought to life with the talented young players of The Outcry Ensemble on strings, guitars and tree branch.
This is the only open London performance by Thomas and the players this summer. A ticket includes drinks on arrival and a delicious meal following the concert. Funds raised will support Music and Theatre For All's Schubert 200 project - a joyous celebration of Schubert’s three great song cycles, recreating the social and friendly atmosphere of the salon gatherings for which they were created.
*****
“A bold re-imagining… this is infectious stuff… there is real intimacy here… Guthrie is the perfect narrator – it really feels like he is telling a story, and as such, it feels like an hour-long story-telling… This Müllerin is destined to captivate and amuse” Colin Clark, Classical Explorer
"The immediacy and vitality of the arrangements is captivating… Guthrie’s vulnerability is touching and believable… a Schöne Müllerin like no other." Andrew McGregor, BBC Radio 3 Record Review
“Guthrie’s arrangement is superb – a fusion of folk, soundtrack and even jazz that finds unexpected new accents and colours in the familiar cycle” The Arts Desk
