Programme is repeated the same day at 7pm at the Scottish Arts Club, 24 Rutland Square, Edinburgh EH1 2BW (tickets £15 non members, contact office@scottishartsclub.co.uk for info) Distinguished violinist Madeleine Mitchell, described by The Herald as 'a violinist in a million', performs appealing works by Scottish and American composers, including John McLeod CBE - 'Another Time, Another Place', and works written for Madeleine by Sir James MacMillan and Nigel Osborne MBE, Professor Emertus of Edinburgh University - celebrating his 70th birthday, together with works by Americans Copland, Amy Beach and Gershwin 'An American in Paris' ‘in Mitchell’s highly effective arrangement” (The Times). She is joined by the pianist Nigel Clayton with whom she has given many successful recitals including London’s Wigmore Hall, Singapore Victoria Hall, BBC Radio 3 and a recent acclaimed album - 'Violin Muse'. This also includes violin duos by Judith Weir CBE, Master of the Queen’s Music, entitled ‘Atlantic Drift’ celebrating the flow of traditional music between Scotland and America.
