Programme Note
Three outstanding musicians perform two of the great piano trios – by Brahms and Dvorak – plus a delightful opener by Lili Boulanger from 1917, in this stunning venue.
Violinist Madeleine Mitchell is well known throughout Wales and internationally for her many performances as soloist for the BBC and in chamber music, her London Chamber Ensemble having been inaugurated at the Vale of Glamorgan Festival 30 years ago. She has just won the Welsh Music Guild Stuart Burrows award for an instrumentalist who has made a significant contribution to Welsh music. Her London Chamber Ensemble album of Grace Williams was number two in the classical charts and widely praised. They are equally known for their impassioned performances of late romantic works. Pianist Julian Milford has partnered Dame Felicity Lott, Dame Sarah Connolly and others. Cellist Kirsten Jenson has just appeared at the Wigmore Hall with the Strings of Europe Ensemble. The trio’s recent concert in London was very well received.
“An all-star team which manages to outdo all its rivals” Gramophone
