A haunting neo-classical story unfolds with elements of chamber music masterpieces of the romantic age, while at the same time speaking a language of its own. The music moves seamlessly between the light-hearted and the sombre, leading towards a striking but simple and intensely moving finale. Elgar's Piano Quintet is a fantastic and exuberant work. The first movement displays tremendous spirit, giving way to the second movement, the emotional heart of the piece. This sublime passage with its imploring, recitative-like interruptions from the cello moves towards a thunderous close. Riverhouse Barn Arts Centre, Walton-on-Thames DD/MM/YYYYDetails
