This uplifting programme celebrates Handel’s genius for ceremonial splendour, and radiant vocal brilliance. At the heart of the concert are the uplifting Coronation Anthems, written for the coronation of George II in 1727. Among them is the ever-popular Zadok the Priest, whose thrilling orchestral introduction and triumphant choral entry have made it one of the most recognisable pieces in the choral repertoire. The programme also features the Chandos Anthem No. 10, The Lord Is My Light, a work written when Handel had recently become a British subject and was house composer at Cannons House in Middlesex. The evening also features two solo arias that showcase Handel’s gift for lyrical beauty and virtuosic display: the serene and heavenly Eternal Source of Light Divine and the jubilant Let the Bright Seraphim. Set within the historic atmosphere of Romsey Abbey, this promises to be a memorable celebration of Handel’s timeless music. Romsey Abbey, Romsey DD/MM/YYYY
