Programme Note

Bournemouth Bach Choir and Orchestra and an excellent line-up of soloists present Haydn’s The Creation.
Joseph Haydn’s glorious masterpiece, The Creation, a three-part oratorio composed in 1798, depicts and celebrates the creation of the world as depicted in Milton’s Paradise Lost and the Biblical book of Genesis. The Creation gives an account of the six days of creation, including incredibly vivid musical word-painting, such as the depiction of ‘light’, the storm scenes, the wonderful sunrise music and the colourful depiction of various animals and birds. In the final part, Adam and Eve sing of the wonder and perfection of God’s newly created world and of their happiness together. The Creation is widely considered Haydn’s crowning achievement, a work of radiant light, a joyful balm in times of trouble. Performance sung in English.
Come and hear this fabulous work in the glorious surroundings and acoustics of Romsey Abbey.
