Programme Note
Our spring programme has an operatic theme with the Prelude to Wagner's only comic opera, Die Meistersinger von Nurnberg and Bizet's Carmen, one of the world's most popular operas. It was after seeing a production of Carmen that Tchaikovsky first became obsessed with Fate controlling destiny. Our concert concludes with his Fourth Symphony which is permeated by the Fate motif. However, joyful, dance-like melodies ensure that optimism finally triumphs over gloom.
Recent concerts have sold out quickly, so we would advise purchasing tickets in advance to avoid disappointment!
