Programme Note
The Alke Quartet was formed in 2011 from members of the Southbank Sinfonia and in 2014 they welcomed Soh-Yon Kim as first violinist. Following their highly successful Park Lane Group audition in Spring 2015, the Alke Quartet have been selected as PLG Young Artist for 2015/16 which involve concerts in St John’s Smith Square, London in April as part of the long-established PLG Young Artists Series. Part of the Chamber Studio, Kings Place London, the Alke Quartet have received masterclasses from Rita Wagner, Krysia Osostowicz, Simon Rowland-Jones and Richard Ireland. Finalists in the Bloch Music Competition and St. Martin-in-the-Fields Chamber Music Competition, they were accepted for the International Music Seminar Prussia Cove, working closely with the Endellion Quartet’s David Waterman. Their performance venues include St. Martin-in-the-Fields, St James’s Piccadilly, Bath’s Pump Room and the Barbican Centre. Also in 2015/16, the Alke Quartet will be in residence at the Royal College of Music on the Artist Diploma in Chamber Music Course, kindly supported by a legacy from the late Albert and Eugenie Frost. In their busy season ahead, the ensemble are also thrilled to be featured in this year’s St. Martin-in-the-Fields Lunchtime Concert Series.
