Programme Note
It Takes 2….!
Our family concert this year celebrates all that is great about partnerships; musical and otherwise!
Arguably, the most famous stage and film musicals of all time were written by either Rodgers & Hammerstein or George & Ira Gershwin. Both feature in our concert in the form of Carousel Waltz and the overture to Strike up the Band.
There are lots of famous couples depicted in music and we've included just a few; Prokofiev's Romeo & Juliet, Saint-Saens' Bacchanale from Samson & Delilah & Scarlet O'Hara & Rhett Butler too, in the main theme from Gone with the Wind.
Wallace & Gromit and Beauty & the Beast are sure to enchant our younger audience and those who are just young at heart!
Perhaps Nottingham's most famous couple (other than Robin Hood and Maid Marian) are Torvill & Dean. It's over 30 years since they won Olympic gold in Sarajevo with their routine to Ravel's haunting, sensual Bolero. We don't have any ice dancing, but we do have Ravel's fabulous music.
Along the way there will be a couple of duets from our friends from Nottingham Operatic Society, we'll experience a Thunder & Lightning Polka by Strauss and we'll even take Tea for Two courtesy of Shostakovich!
So, plenty of fantastic music for all the family to enjoy. Come along and enjoy the fun!
