Programme Note
Reading's Polish community would like to share with you a unique music experience. Lenten Lamentations (pl. Gorzkie Zale) is a devotion based on beautiful music. Written in the 18th century, it is rarely sung outside Poland.
We would like to put Lenten Lamentations into wider musical and historical context. It will be revealed at a concert on the 10th March at 7.30pm featuring Baroque harpsichord lamentations by Johann Jakob Froberger and European Medieval lamentations (12th-14th century). Music will be performed by highly acclaimed Polish artists: Joanna Boślak-Górniok (harpsichord) and Agnieszka Budzińska-Bennett (voice, Romanesque harp, sinfonia).
The church service Gorzkie Żale, just as it is traditionally sung in Poland, will happen on the 11th March at 5.30 pm. English translation will be available. Admission FREE for the service.
