Musica Antica Rotherhithe
Programme Note
Musica Antica Rotherhithe present a programme of arias and duets by three generations of Italian composers: Claudio Monteverdi, his student and successor as the greatest living composer of his time, Francesco Cavalli, and his student and most famous female composer of the age, Barbara Strozzi. The music of three composers who made their names in Venice is paired with beautiful and rarely-heard Calabrian folk songs of the period.
This performance also celebrates the release of ‘Arias, Duets and Ensembles from the operas of Francesco Cavalli’, edited and translated by director Oliver Doyle, and made available for free through the generosity of the Cavallii Charity.
