Its Latin title refers to the words earth and memory, and like memory, some aspects of the piece change over time while others remain fixed. Final-year student Elena Stamp is the soloist in Colin Matthew’s orchestration of Britten’s song cycle A Charm of Lullabies, and John Smith – who graduated from the University of York in August 2020 and is currently studying at the RNCM – plays Mendelssohn’s Piano Concerto no. 2 in a performance that was originally scheduled for February 2021 but postponed due to the pandemic.
