The programme opens with two contrasting fanfares: Aaron Copland’s noble and timeless Fanfare for the Common Man, followed by Joan Tower’s spirited and empowering Fanfare for the Uncommon Woman. The choir takes centre stage with Britten's Ad majoriam dei Gloriam, a wonderful collection of 7 poems. Britten’s Variations on a Theme of Frank Bridge, a virtuosic showcase for strings, celebrates his mentor with charm, energy, and invention.
