Programme Note
Join us on Good Friday for an exceptional performance of the St John Passion: that great sacred work that combines gripping human drama with the genius of Bach’s music to tell the story of Jesus’ final days.
Baritone Roderick Williams will join us in the role of Jesus, and we have cast Joanne Lunn as our first ever female Evangelist to guide us through the story. Furthermore, CLS will join forces with the Choir of Southwark Cathedral and a quartet of emerging soloists, cast by Roderick Williams. The piece will be directed by Alexandra Wood and Iain Farrington. To make the storytelling more vivid, we will perform the work in English.
Southwark Cathedral allows for this performance to feature the familiar signatures of our seriously informal style: you can choose to experience the performance in your own way with flexible seating configurations positioned in the Nave or in-promenade exploring the majestic architecture and changing acoustics throughout the Cathedral.
