Programme Note
Featuring music by Borodin, Rimsky-Korsakov and Shostakovich, this concert is set to be an interesting and enjoyable experience. The first half will show what an outward-looking place Russia was before 1917 incorporating themes and modes from foreign cultures, which will then contrast with the Shostakovich in the second half, demonstrating the absence of any outward links during Sovietisation instead using brutal "non- cultural" material.
