Programme Note

We’re looking forward to performing a programme of gorgeous early baroque music at St Andrew’s Holborn.

Whitehall Choir, along with organist Ian Tindale, and Peter McCarthy on bass viol will present some less well known pieces by popular composers, and we hope you will discover and enjoy some hidden gems.

Although Johann Pachelbel (1653-1706) is best known for his Canon, he wrote a wealth of other beautiful works and Whitehall Choir will perform his setting of the Magnificat. The centre piece of the concert is a thrilling work by Heinrich Schütz: Musikalische Exiquien, or funeral music. Monteverdi's vibrant Dixit Dominus features too, as well as music by Barbara Strozzi and Francesa Caccini in a set of passionate secular works.

Do come along and share these stunning works with us!
