Programme Note

Haydn Nelson Mass (Missa in angustiis): composed during a time of international crisis and named after the legendary Admiral Nelson, this "Mass in time of distress" is one of Haydn's most dramatic and powerful works. From the stormy D minor Kyrie to the jubilant Dona Nobis Pacem, it offers a visceral blend of devotion and triumph.

J S Bach Passiontide Music: A sequence of movements from Bach's Leipzig cantantas, with new English words, telling the story of Holy week. This sublime music expresses universal human emotions of sorrow, compassion, hope and joy.
