Programme Note
The orchestra is back! Helix Ensemble is returning to St Andrew’s Church in Countesthorpe LE8 5QX on Saturday 9th February at 7.30pm for a concert of music by Haydn and Ravel, much of it inspired by dance music. Toby Purser, who conducted us three years ago in Countesthorpe, will be our Musical Director for this concert, introducing Ravel’s Pavane and Tombeau de Couperin in between Haydn’s first and last symphonies. Haydn’s Symphony no. 104 is often called ‘The London’ having been composed during a very successful visit by Haydn to London in 1795 and you may have last heard it played by Helix Ensemble in Countesthorpe in 2011!
Come and join us for a lovely concert in the warm and comfortable St Andrew’s church with refreshments available at the interval. You can order tickets in advance from Active Arts 07531 440365 active.arts2010@gmail.com or buy tickets at £12 for adults (accompanied children free) on the door.
