German/Venetian Vespers for Christmas – part of our celebrations of Schutz 350
A programme of German/Venetian choral music structured around the Catholic Liturgy of a Marian Vespers, including pieces of an Advent and Christmas flavour. This is a large-scale project working with instrumentalists from the English Cornett and Sackbut Ensemble, one of Europe’s leading early music groups and we hope to use the glorious space and splendour of St Andrew’s Church on Jarrom Street to its full effect. To include works by G Gabrieli, Claudio Monteverdi (from his 1610 Vespers), Hans Leo Hassler, Johann Rosenmüller and Heinrich Schütz, in the 350th Anniversary year of his death in 1672. An immersive and thrilling experience in prospect.
