Programme Note
The Gjylaci brothers are a young and charismatic violin and guitar duo. They are graduates of the Royal Northern College of Music and have performed in many major concert venues and music festivals across the UK and Europe. Their repertoire includes music from all around the world and across all genres. Their entertaining programmes, presentations and performances have earned them great acclaim and many return visits.
Esen-Nikolas is the leader of Northern String Quartet and regularly tours around the UK. He is also the artistic director of Manchester String Orchestra. Whilst Jon’s busy schedule sees him perform as a soloist across the country promoting his recently released guitar album. Jon has also performed live on BBC Radio 3 and he was a leading feature of the Classical Guitar Magazine in spring 2017.
The duo also collaborate on a regular basis with living British composers and commission new works in order to broaden the violin and guitar repertoire.
They are excited to return to ‘St Andrew’s Music Festival’ and their programme will include works by Niccolo Paganini, Diego Maximo Pujol, Celso Machado as well as world premieres of music by Ray Kohn and Thoma Simaku.
