Add to my Calendar 18-03-2017 19:30 18-03-2017 21:30 36 Sutton Symphony Orchestra's Spring Concert A Nordic-inspired programme for Sutton Symphony Orchestra Sutton Symphony Orchestra (SSO) returns to St Andrew’s URC, Northey Avenue, Cheam on Saturday 18th March for a concert of Nordic delights. The  programme kicks off some Finnish folklore in the form of the Karelia Suite by Sibelius.  Andrew Yiangou, junior fellow at the Royal College of Music, then takes centre stage in Grieg’s ever-popular Piano Concerto in A minor. Nielsen’s 4th Symphony – the Inextinguishable - follows. If the Danish word hygge refers to something warm and cosy then this symphony isn’t it. Instead it depicts the fundamental life-force of music, so pretty intense and full on from the start, but all in a good way. 7.30pm start, tickets from https://www.wegottickets.com/event/387580 or on the door: adults £10, under 18s free. Cakes at the interval – coffee and cake (fika) being an important Swedish tradition we are happy to adopt. Sutton Symphony Orchestra (Conductor Philip Aslangul, Leader Annmarie McDade) rehearses on a Tuesday evening and provides an opportunity for local musicians to perform ambitious orchestral works. SSO performs 3 concerts per year.
