Programme Note
The Corran Quartet are a young, exciting string quartet based in London.
Since forming in 2019, they have studied intensively with James Boyd and Catherine Manson through MusicWorks. They have had the pleasure of performing in a variety of venues including Fidelio Cafe, and live on BBC Radio 3's 'In Tune'. In 2021 they were chosen as Buxton International Festival's Inaugural Chamber Ensemble 2021/22, Britten Pears Young Artist Programme, and received Chamber Studio mentorship from Simon Rowland Jones.
Following the devastation the Coronavirus crisis caused in care homes, in 2020 the quartet became a member of SoundUp Arts, an organisation that specialises in developing programmes for people with dementia. Corran Quartet will perform their programme for the Buxton International Festival consisting of Sally Beamish’s Quartet ‘Opus California’ at the Highgate Festival. This is in a quest to promote more female composers. Corran Quartet is pairing this with Beethoven op. 18 no.4.
St Anne’s Church is a fitting venue since its peal of bells was given by the parish’s most famous resident, the enormously wealthy, Baroness Angela Burdett-Coutts. This remarkable lady and philanthropist’s home was Holly Lodge.
