Programme Note

The South West London Choral Society presents a glorious celebration of Christmas through music that has a special place in the traditions of the European countries and regions where it originated. Included in the programme are settings of traditional songs from Finland, Denmark, Catalonia, France and Ukraine.

We will also be singing two contrasting settings, by Tomas Luis Victoria and Martin Everett, of the beautiful Latin text O Magnum Mysterium, which recalls that animals were the first creatures to welcome the new-born Jesus. There will also be a chance to hear the Magnificat by Johann Pachelbel (composer of the famous Canon). The highly varied and entertaining programme is rounded off with works by John Ireland, John Ebeneezer West, and Martin Everett.

Wine and mince pies will be served before the performance and during the interval. Come and join us for some beautiful choral music this December in a warm and festive atmosphere!
