Programme Note
The distinguished Spanish pianist Mario Prisuelos guides us on a journey of lyricism, elegance, and depth in a programme that pays tribute to the bicentenary of Marcial del Adalid (1826-1881), considered the foremost exponent of Spanish Romantic piano music. A pupil of Ignaz Moscheles — himself an illustrious student of Ludwig van Beethoven — Adalid developed a unique musical language that blends Central European elegance with a deeply Spanish sensibility. Through Prisuelos’ interpretation, Adalid’s music — refined, evocative, and richly expressive — re-emerges with renewed vitality, inviting audiences to discover one of the most distinctive and captivating voices of the 19th century.
Mario Prisuelos is widely regarded as one of the most relevant and versatile pianists of his generation — an international reference in Spanish piano repertoire and a committed advocate for the rediscovery of Spain’s musical heritage. His busy concert schedule and his commitment to contemporary music and interdisciplinary projects has taken him to some of the world’s leading venues, including Carnegie Hall in New York, the Auditorio Nacional in Madrid, IRCAM–Centre Pompidou in Paris, and the Teatro Solís, among many others.
This is an ILAMS event organised in collaboration with the Instituto Cervantes and St Clement Danes as part of Echoes Festival 2026.
