Programme Note

For our final “Dialogues” Concert Philomel Creative Circle artists will perform Maurice Ravel’s monumental trio for violin, cello and piano. Considered as one of the most innovative masterpieces of the piano trio repertoire, as well as one of the most profound chamber music works of the 20th century, often interpreted as a musical “anti-war” anthem (it was created at the same time as First World War broke out) the Ravel Trio will be presented in a historical context alongside two other piano trios; a trio by the 19th century German composer Fanny Mendelssohn and a trio by a contemporary French composer Raphaël Novarina (composed in 2022 this will be the trio’s UK premier). Join us for this Dialogue of trios that will assess how the music of the past echoes in the music of the present and inspires and affects the music of the future.
