Programme Note

A recital of songs about love and violence from Scotland, to celebrate to Burns Night (a few hours early). The recital will include a performance of Judith Weir’s Scotch Minstrelsy - an ironic take on some of the strange, supernatural and violent events told in the Border ballads - and settings of Burns' poetry by Schumann, Ravel and Mendelssohn, a testament to the popularity of Burns throughout Europe.

Performed by Timothy Coleman, tenor, and Alex Norton, piano, with guest soloist Rachel Gray. Entry by donation.
