The maturity of composition belies the youthfulness of the composer. Mendelssohn later added it to the A Midsummer Night's Dream, incidental music, Op.61 in 1842. The orchestra's leader, Lynn Cook, is the soloist in Haydn's violin concerto in G major, It might have been written for Luigi Tomasini, concertmaster of the Esterházy orchestra, where Haydn was kapellmeister. The concerto has three movements: Allegro moderato; Adagio; Finale Allegro Sibelius' 2nd Symphony was written during the time of Finland's struggle for independence from Russia.
