The Arc in the Sky

Join the Cantus Ensemble for the European premiere of Kile Smith’s remarkable unaccompanied choral work

Add to my Calendar 02-11-2019 19:00 02-11-2019 21:00 36 The Arc in the Sky Join the Cantus Ensemble for the European premiere of Kile Smith's remarkable 'The Arc in the Sky', complete with immersive dramatic elements provided by Olivier Award-nominated actor, Alex Knox. Setting to music texts by Robert Lax (1915-2000), The Arc in the Sky is a 65 minute pilgrimage for unaccompanied choir in which the writer finds the spiritual in things as diverse as Jazz, writing, birds, and even dinosaurs! Set out into three distinct sections of Jazz, Praise and Arc, the work is a sublime new composition by American composer Kile Smith, with music genres from 13 note Jazz, to Gregorian Chant invoked for a choir that splits into as many as sixteen parts at times. Joining us in the same role as with our groundbreaking performance of Joby Talbot's 'Path of Miracles', Alex Knox knits together the nine movements with a theatrical arc that sees the character trying to make sense of the world in which he lives, to finally seeing (and hearing) with total clarity, the words "The Arc in the Sky" through subtle kaleidoscopic musical and dramatic shifts. The first concert of Cantus' 2019/20 season, this is not an event to be missed and will run without an interval, with a pre-performance talk (along with refreshments) beforehand at 7pm.       St Gabriel's Church, London DD/MM/YYYY
