Programme Note
Fantasia Orchestra, a group of budding young instrumentalists, are joined by BBC Young Musician Sheku Kanneh-Mason (17) for a beautiful programme of Sibelius, Haydn and Mendelssohn, conducted by Tom Fetherstonhaugh (18).
Started in January 2016, the orchestra has an average age of 18 and is made up of young musicians from London Conservatoires who all share a love for performing. The standard is incredibly high; the first concert was sold out.
Sheku Kanneh-Mason is the cello soloist in Haydn's C major concerto. Aged 17, Sheku won BBC Young Musician this year and has just signed a record deal with Decca. He has recently performed this concerto at the Royal Festival Hall.
