Programme Note
Exultate Singers and the sensational saxophonist Amy Dickson memorably performed together for the first time at St George’s first ever mixtape concert, an event which sowed the seeds for this feature-length collaboration.
Amy Dickson is an extraordinary and spellbinding performer, described by Gramophone as “a player with a difference who has an individual and unusual tone, luscious, silky-smooth, sultry and voluptuous by turns; her phrasing is beautifully finished, her control of dynamic infinitely subtle.” She is a Classic Brit award winner, Grammy™-nominated, who recently attained the coveted No. 1 spot in the UK Classical Album Charts.
This concert premieres a feast of mesmerising and entertaining works for choir and saxophone by some of the UK’s leading composers in a wide variety of styles from traditional melodies to the jazz-inspired Exultate by Roderick Williams, together with a new arrangement of Eric Whitacre’s A Girl and a Boy, specially made for the concert.
