Programme Note

To mark the centenary of the First World War Armistice, Bath Camerata and the Bristol Ensemble perform Howard Goodall’s Eternal Light: A Requiem, a poignant interweaving of poetry and prayer for the departed. This is paired with Frank Bridge’s elegiac Suite for Strings and Vaughan Williams’ Five Mystical Songs, a setting for baritone and choir of spiritual texts by seventeenth-century poet and priest George Herbert, culminating in the triumphant hymn of praise ‘Let all the world in every corner sing’.  Baritone Gareth Brynmor John was the Winner of the Kathleen Ferrier Award 2013.
