Programme Note

On this Remembrance Sunday evening, Bristol’s accomplished chamber choir present a programme of music on the theme of light as a symbol of hope and optimism.

Included are pieces written as a response to the fall of the Berlin Wall, exactly 30 years ago, when composers found new freedom to set religious texts without fear of persecution.

Other events and people are commemorated in a wide range of chant-inspired music from the 16th century to the present day. Nicholas O’Neill is composer-in-residence to the Parliament Choir, for whom he wrote a poignant setting of words by John Donne in memory of Jo Cox MP.
