John Rutter's song cycle Shadows sets (often rather racy!) words from the Elizabethan period, which is matched by Dowland's equally racy and melancholy popular songs. Ian McMillan's tweets (set by Richard Barnard in his Early Stroll Songs, receiving their world premiere in this concert) are deft, ingenious and colourful. PLUS!
