Programme Note
Bristol Phoenix Choir invites you to a musical birthday celebration. If you were anyone in the 18rh Century, what better way to mark your wife's birthday than getting a famous composer to write a piece for the occasion! We present Handel's Birthday Ode for Queen Anne of 1712, celebrated for the beautiful opening aria "Eternal Source of Light Divine" but with a great variety of moods over its 9 movements. Our main work is Haydn's Creation Mass, written for the birthday of Princess Marie Esterházy. The programme is completed with Mozart's Solemn Vespers, which includes the wonderful soprano solo "Laudate Dominum" - not written for a birthday but so beautiful it should have been!
