Programme Note
The Chorale’s Spring Concert features Maurice Duruflé's Requiem and a selection of French and English music written around the first half of the twentieth century.
Duruflé Requiem has become one of the best-loved 20th Century choral pieces, with Gregorian chant meeting the sumptuous soundworld of 20th-century France in his setting of the Requiem Mass. The piece features some wonderful accompaniment which will see organist Aeron Glyn putting St George’s splendid organ through its paces.
Hubert Parry’s rousing Hear my Words, Ye People was first performed in Salisbury Cathedral in 1894. This extended verse anthem culminates with the stirring tune O Praise Ye the Lord, now a popular hymn. The concert also features Lili Boulanger's beautiful Hymne au Soleil, full of colour, light and harmony, and Saint-Saëns' Priere, for organ and cello. Mark Griffiths conducts.
The concert will last approximately 70’ and do please join us afterwards for a complimentary drink.
