Programme Note

For the ancient Greeks, hosting meant sharing your best wine and music with newcomers to foster a shared sense of belonging.

Ayres Extemporae, winners of the York Early Music International Young Artists Competition 2024, make their BREMF debut with tunes for domestic entertainment from Playford’s Dancing Master alongside music by Giovanni Carbonelli, an extraordinary Italian violinist who was official purveyor of wine to King George II.

Downstairs £25 seating will be arranged around tables; £18 seating will be upstairs in the gallery (except wheelchair and accessible spaces).
