Programme Note

A concert of beautiful sacred music with a French theme.

Duruflé's meditative Requiem, focusing on eternal rest, and Vierne's bold Messe solennelle are the centre pieces of our concert.

Cantique de Jean Racine by Faure is much loved by many choral singers. The work by Jean Dattas was introduced to the Birmingham Festival Choral Society by Sylvie Dattas, his daughter, who sings 2nd soprano in our choir. Jean Dattas was organist at Notre Dame in Paris from 1949 until he moved to England in 1955, and was a good friend of Duruflé. We first sang his lyrical 'Kyrie and Agnus Dei' in 2016 on choir tour in Burgundy, and we are looking forward to singing it again on November 15th.
