Programme Note
The second concert in our inaugural Foundation Programme series features the internationally-renowned clarinettist Michael Collins. He will take centre stage in Gerald Finzi's virtuosic clarinet concerto. Artistic Director Thomas Carroll conducts a programme showcasing music that has inspired our own development. Bernstein’s infectious energy opens the concert in a whirlwind Overture to Candide and we are so excited to have the opportunity to perform Cheryl Frances-Hoad’s brilliantly musical writing in Beyond the Road Begun. The second-half features Brahms’s iconic Symphony No. 1. Widely regarded as one of the best symphonies of the Austro-German canon, it was nearly 20 years in the making and is simply utterly glorious in its Brahmsian lyricism and thematic unity.
Orpheus Sinfonia Foundation Programme is generously supported by the Skyrme Hart Charitable Trust.
