Programme Note
Celebrating our tenth anniversary (though two years late due the pandemic), the New Tottenham Singers, in partnership with Covent Garden Chamber Orchestra and soloists, present a performance of choral music, at the centre of which is the Mozart Requiem.
Mozart left the Requiem, his enduringly popular final work, unfinished upon his death. Full of emotion and pathos, and written in the midst of illness, it is regarded as a beautiful expression of Mozart’s enduring faith and hope.
We will also be performing Parry's I Was Glad, a Coronation anthem, in celebration of the Platinum Jubilee; Vaughan Williams' Serenade to Music, in his 150th anniversary year; and a world premiere of Alleluia by local composer, the late Christopher Wilson.
The venue for the concert is the 120-year old St Ignatius Church, a prominent Tottenham landmark with a Grade II listing, and one of the area’s most noteworthy buildings.
The New Tottenham Singers are a non-audition choir in north London with around 40 members. We have been bringing a varied and high quality musical repertoire - everything from major classical choral works to jazz to musical theatre and more recent popular music - to our community since 2010.
