Here are pieces in the “stylus fantasticus” or fantastic style, which flourished in Germany, Austria, Bohemia and Italy in the late 17th century. The style featured technical virtuosity, surprise, invention and mind-bending new sounds, including scordatura, alternative tunings that went beyond what was possible on the violin.
