The music of tonight's concert spans nearly one hundred years, from Elgar's There is Sweet Music to Knut Nystedt's arrangement of Bach's funeral song Komm, süßer Tod (Come, sweet death). The concert begins with one of Stanford's lesser known works, God and the Universe, followed by Poulenc's Missa Brevis Messe en sol majeur (Mass in G major), and ending with Howells' famous and challenging Take Him Earth for Cherishing.
