Programme Note
The Beaufort Singers will be making its London debut in the glorious surroundings of St James Church, Sussex Gardens on Tuesday 29 November 2022 at 8pm!
St James Sussex Gardens is a beautiful venue, and this is backed up by a really special acoustic. Handily located not far from Paddington and Lancaster Gate Underground Stations, there really couldn't be a better place for us to perform in the capital.
Our programme will dwell on two works which sat in manuscript form for decades during the twentieth century, and which once published, became highly celebrated masterpieces for both composers. They are Herbert Howells' sublime Requiem, written in memory of his son Michael who died aged 9 after contracting polio, and Frank Martin's Messe pour deux choeurs a cappella, written 100 years ago this year but only performed for the first time in the 1960s.
