Programme Note
‘Music, for a while, shall all your cares beguile.’ The opening line of one of Purcell’s most famous songs gives this programme its starting point: the idea that music can console, delight, stir memories, lift spirits and bring people together.
Music in Hospitals & Care brings live music to people in hospitals, hospices, care homes and community settings, through musicians who understand how much it matters in those places. They offer something no recording or streaming platform can replace - music made in the moment, for particular listeners, with time to talk, listen and share the experience. As one of the charity’s Vice Presidents, Christopher Glynn has seen how deeply this work touches people’s lives and how much difference live musical encounters can make.
Tonight’s programme therefore celebrates music in its many different roles, moving between songs and melodies in which it is praised, imagined, remembered and shared.
Join us at 6.30pm for wine and canapes with the music starting at 7.30pm.
