Programme Note
Trevor Pinnock and the choir and orchestra of The English Concert are joined by soloists Sophie Bevan, Claudia Huckle, Joshua Ellicott, and Ashley Riches for 'Messiah for Jessie'. Trevor Pinnock says ‘Handel devoted Messiah to the support of children, giving yearly benefit performances at the Foundling Hospital, and bequeathing them all his musical material. It has been my dream to follow Handel’s strong lead in this delayed celebration of 25 years of Jessie’s Fund, and this we do in a post-pandemic, shortened (100 minute) journey through his inspired masterpiece.’
Jessie’s Fund (www.jessiesfund.org.uk) is a registered charity which helps children with complex needs or serious illness to communicate by using music. Music provides a powerful and profound way in which children can express themselves and connect with the world around them. Trevor Pinnock is a Patron and great supporter of the charity.
St James’s Church follows the government’s guidance on Covid protocols. All visitors are strongly encouraged to wear face coverings when inside the church if they can, and to check in on arrival using the NHS Covid-19 app.
