Programme Note

Classical meets Romantic in a programme showcasing Beethoven’s magnificent Mass in C alongside two of Brahms’ most beautiful and poignant choral works.  The Mass combines the traditional Mass with the new heightened drama and orchestral and harmonic resources of the early 1800s. The result is a humble, beautiful contemplation of the divine. Some 60 years later Brahms epitomises high romanticism in the angst of the Alto Rhapsody, and with his Song of Destiny, creates a timeless work reflecting his personal interpretation of the idea of fate.
