Programme Note
This year sees the third of Cheltenham Bach Choir’s popular Spring Festivals dedicated to the performance of Baroque music. Taking place over the last weekend of March, the programme ranges from an intimate harpsichord recital to a major performance of Bach’s St John Passion. Music lovers in Gloucestershire can expect to enjoy three days of top-class Baroque music-making.
The highlight of this year’s ‘Spring Festival of the Baroque’ will be a performance of Bach’s St John Passion, to be given in Cirencester Parish Church by the Cheltenham Bach Choir, together with the Musical and Amicable Society Baroque Orchestra. The part of the Evangelist will be sung by the internationally renowned tenor, James Gilchrist, and Jesus by baritone Matthew Durkan. The performance will be directed by David Crown.
