Programme Note
The evening begins with a pre-concert talk at 6.30pm. Nicholas Jones and John Thwaites discuss Music & Melodrama. The talk is included in concert 3 ticket price. The concert follows at 7.30pm.
Nicholas narrates Edgar Allen Poe's gothic horror story The Mask of the Red Death, with Andre Caplet's atmospheric setting of the same story "The Masque of the Red Death" for Harp and Cello.
The concert starts with Janáček's first String Quartet "Kreutzer Sonata", inspired by Tolstoy's tale of passion, jealousy and murder. Arvo Pärt's 'Fratres' for cello & harp and Elgar's wonderful Piano Quintet complete the evening.
Ticket price includes a glass of wine or soft drink. Soft drink for students.
