Programme Note

The music from the north-eastern quadrant of Europe and its big neighbour to the east is incredibly rich in its sound.  The content of this final concert of the 2015-16 season draws on the choral repertoire of Arvo Pärt (Estonia), Henryk Gorecki (Poland), and Rachmaninov (Russia).   In addition there will be works by two British composers - Charles Wood and John Tavener, the latter being a repeat of his work Svyati that was such a hit at last summer's concert.
